Dietary Therapy for Chronic Renal Failure

Diabetes is the abnormal metabolism of carbohydrates, caused by inadequate funcioning of insulin in the body. as a result, the ability of body cells to use carbohydrates is decreased, which cause the increase in blood sugar or the occurance of glycosuria. this chronic disease in inefective metabolism may induce further complications, such as retinopathy , nephropathy , neuropathy, atherosclerosis, etc. if and appropriate diet is observed during the early stage, further impairment can be delayed substantially. it is therefore imperative that patients with diabetes adhere to a controlled dietary regimen.

the dietary theraphy of diabetes aims at supplying adequate and balanced nutrition to maintain ideal body weight , preventing blood sugar level from escalating and preventing or delaying the development of complications.

special attention should be paid to the following.

1. do not become OVERWEiGHT, attain and maintain an ideal body weight ( be sexy and hot)

2. take each meal as scheduled at fixed time, and in consistent amounts and distribution. do not change the schedule.

3. reduce the amount of foods prepared with deep frying or pan frying and take only skinned pork, poultry and fish.

4. nuts high in fat content such as peanut , seeds, cashew nuts, and walnuts, should be AVOIDED

5. use vegetable oil (except coconut oil and palm oil) for cooking , never cook in animal fat.

6. cooking method, such as steaming , boiling braising , grilling , baking, broiling , stewing, which need less fat are RECCOMENDED

7.when preparing meals for the elderly , MSG and salt should be reduced.

8. foods with high cholesterol content , such as organ meat , crap spawn , shirmp roe , fish roe , should be AVOIDED

9. choose foods with higher fiber content, such as whole grain cereals, unprocessed beans, fresh vegetables and fruits. however do not consume in excess of prescribe amount.

10. foods with high starch content, such as sweet potatoes, potatoes , taros , maizes , water singharnuts, chesnuts, beans, dried beans, should be taken only as advised by dietician.

11 candies, sweten milk, softdrinks, canned fruit juices, preserved candied fruits, cakes , desert , dim sum , bean thread and pure starch should be AVOIDED.

12. do not eat sweetened food , saccharin may be subtituted for sugar.
